Troopers crash in high speed chase
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Two Highway Patrol Troopers collided after an early morning high speed chase on I-40.
Highway Patrol says the crash happened near mile marker 418 in New Hanover County around 1:39 a.m. today.
According to highway patrol, Trooper R.D. Hendrickson and Trooper Howard were following a motorcyclist from Duplin County down I-40 East. As one trooper attempted to pull the suspect over from the right land, the motorcyclist swerved in front of him, causing the two troopers to collide. The troopers were said to be going about 70 MPH at the time of the crash.
We’re told shortly after the motorcyclist ran out of gas and was arrested. He is now in the Duplin County Jail.
No injuries were reported. No word on the charges yet.
