Troubleshooters update: No-go on new park

Last month, Troubleshooters looked into the status of the New Hanover Parks Bond.

People in the Monterey Heights neighborhood who had voted for the 34 million dollar bond called us to complain that years after it had passed, their park still hadn’t seen any upgrades.

In March, the county assured us that Monterey Heights Park was slated for big improvements this summer. Now, we’re being told those upgrades have been put on hold.

Even though the bonds have been approved, commissioners have decided not to issue the remaining $18 million dollars worth of bonds until the economy improves, and the county is in a better position to pay them back.
