Turkey Trot helps Habitat for Humanity
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Before you take that first bite of Thanksgiving dinner Thursday, you can get your pre-Thanksgiving exercise in. You’ll also be doing it for a good cause.
The 6th Annual Turkey Trot is bright and early Thursday morning at Wrightsville Beach Park.
The Turkey Trot benefits the Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity. Even though all the proceeds from the trot will to go to Habitat for Humanity to build affordable homes, that’s not the biggest challenge for the charity.
“Our biggest need is buying land,” Habitat’s Kitty Yerkes said. “So most of our fundraisers go toward purchasing land, ’cause the homes are built with volunteers, and we can get materials donated, but our biggest challenge is purchasing land on which the homes are built.”
Habitat for Humanity has built 116 homes in our area.
If you want to participate in the Turkey Trot, it’s not to late to register. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. Thursday. The Turkey Trot starts at 8:30 a.m.
