Two N.C.-based Marines die in Iraq boat accident

CAMP LEJEUNE (AP) — Two North Carolina-based Marines have died from a non-hostile boat accident on the Euphrates River in Iraq.

The military announced today the deaths of 20-year-old Lance Corporal William Chambers, of Ringgold, Georgia, and 20-year-old Lance Corporal Jeremy Tinnel of Mechanicsville, Virginia. They died Sunday while conducting combat operations in the Anbar province.

Both were assigned to the Camp Lejeune-based 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, Second Marine Expeditionary Force.

Chambers joined the Marines in March 2005 and trained as an infantry rifleman. Tinnel joined in August 2004 and trained as an infantry rifleman.
