Uncle of accused escapee arrested in Brunswick court

BOLIVIA, NC (StarNews) — The uncle of a Southport man who was the subject of a manhunt after escaping from the Brunswick County jail was arrested in court Thursday after testifying in a bond reduction hearing for his wife and son.

Robby Hewett, 41, was served with a warrant charging him with felony harboring a fugitive and misdemeanor accessory after the fact in the escape of his nephew William Hewett on Jan. 29.

During the bond hearing in Brunswick County District Court, Robby Hewett testified that he and his incarcerated wife and son, Tanna Hewett and Robert Hewett, were unaware that William Hewett was hiding in a camper on the Hewett family property.
