UNCW opens CAA play with shutout win over Elon
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — UNCW men’s soccer is still unbeaten four matches into the season after shutting out defending Coastal Athletic Association champion Elon, 1-0, Saturday in Wilmington.
The Seahawks improved to 3-0-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play behind another strong defensive performance.
UNCW found the game’s only goal early. Jake Roberts put the Seahawks in front in the seventh minute, finishing a free-kick opportunity set up by Osei Gyamfi and Kieran Radke.
From there, UNCW kept Elon off the scoreboard for the remainder of the match.
The Seahawks and Phoenix each recorded nine shots, with five on goal. UNCW goalkeeper Alex Kron stopped all five shots he faced to secure the clean sheet.
Saturday’s victory gives the Seahawks four straight shutouts to begin the 2026 season. UNCW has not allowed a goal through its first four matches for the first time in eight seasons.
The Seahawks return home Saturday, Sept. 12, to face William & Mary at 6 p.m.
