UNCW provost leaves for top job in NY
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Another administrator at UNCW is heading for a top job at another school.
Trustees for the State University of New York have approved UNCW’s Denise Battles to be the next president at SUNY-Geneseo starting July 1. Battles, a native of upstate New York, has been Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UNCW since July 2012.
Battles’s departure marks at least the third top administrator to leave UNCW in the last year.
Chancellor Gary Miller left UNCW last summer for the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. His quest for a job also included Miller being a finalist for jobs at SUNY-Buffalo State and Youngstown State in Ohio.
Charles Maimone, who had served for six years as UNCW’s Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs, also left the school last summer to take the same job at UNC Greensboro.
UNCW’s Interim Chancellor Bill Sederburg says Battles will stay in her current position through the spring semester. Sources say an interim provost will be named soon.
