UNCW reopens campus to students, classes to resume Monday

NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY)– UNCW students started to move back into their dorms Sunday after being evacuated Hurricane Dorian.

Classes resume Monday.

Freshman, Luke Brooks says the university was originally closed on Labor Day when he got a text around noon stating there would be no classes for the rest of the week due to Hurricane Dorian.

“I mean I took it serious because I knew there were people like out of state,” he said. “I have some friends from out of state, from up north, and they’ve never experienced something like this. So I could kind of be in their shoes, and realize maybe I should take it a little more serious, because that’s how they feel.”

Brooks says he packed a few bags, but did not want to believe the storm could be nearly as bad as Hurricane Florence.

Brooks also says the hurricane did no damage to his dorm.
