United Way announces Port City Jerry Day benefit concert for next week

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The eighth annual Port City Jerry Day benefit concert is scheduled for September 12 at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater, with proceeds supporting the United Way of the Cape Fear Area.

Gates are scheduled to open at 5 p.m., with live music beginning at 6 p.m.

The event will feature performances by local bands, along with headliner Splintered Sunlight, a Grateful Dead tribute band. Local vendors will also be at the event.

Organizers say 100% of ticket proceeds will benefit the United Way of the Cape Fear Area and its network of more than 40 nonprofit partners serving communities throughout the Cape Fear region.

According to organizers, funds raised through the event will support programs focused on health, education and financial stability.

Port City Jerry Day began as part of the City of Wilmington’s employee-led United Way campaign. Organizers credit Tony McEwen, a former United Way board member and volunteer, with helping establish the event.

The event is supported by the City of Wilmington, Corning Credit Union, Reflections of Hope, Capone & Associates, Strong Roots LLC and Duke Energy.

Tickets are currently available for purchase through Eventbrite. Organizers say ticket purchases are tax-deductible.
