United Way of the Cape Fear to celebrate 85th anniversary with fundraising gala

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — United Way of the Cape Fear Area will celebrate 85 years of community service with its third annual fundraising gala on Oct. 29 in downtown Wilmington.

The event, called “Generations of Generosity,” will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Aloft Wilmington at Coastline Center.

According to the organization, the event will recognize generations of supporters who have contributed their time, resources and talents since United Way’s beginnings as the Community Chest in 1941.

Guests can expect dinner, a complimentary drink, guest speakers, a commemorative video and raffle baskets featuring items donated by local businesses.

United Way of the Cape Fear Area said proceeds from the event will support charitable programs serving the Cape Fear region, including efforts focused on education, financial stability and health.

The organization said its two previous fundraising events each drew nearly 200 guests and raised more than $50,000 to support community programs.

Major sponsors for this year’s event include Atlantic Union Bank and Leath HR Group. Raffle basket donations have come from several area businesses, including Cugino Forno, Dave & Buster’s, Wrightsville Beach Brewery, The Basics, Port City Java and Wilmington Municipal Golf Course.
