UPDATE: Apartment murder linked to suicide

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – Wilmington police say the investigation of a woman’s body found at an apartment complex off New Centre Drive is linked to a suicide in New Hanover County.

Police say Rebecca Ann Jones, 23, was found dead in an apartment off Dapple Court around 3 p.m. yesterday, after the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office notified them of a possible murder-suicide.

Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer says Justin Hakeem Walker, 26, entered Shooter’s Choice, rented three handguns, then walked into the gun range section and shot himself in the head. While investigating, detectives found a note that led to Jones’ body in the apartment on Dapple Court.

Jones’ death is being investigated as a homicide.

No word yet on her cause of death. Investigators are waiting on autopsy results.

According to Jones’ Facebook page, she and Walker got engaged in December and planned to get married this April in Wilmington.  Her Facebook page also shows she studied nursing at Cape Fear Community College and worked at MedNorth Health Center.
