UPDATE: Teen shot by mother dies

WILLARD, NC (WWAY) — A Pender County teen is dead days after being shot by his mother.

The Pender County Sheriff’s Office says the 14-year-old boy from Willard was taken off life support Saturday.

Pender County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a woman who had shot herself at a home in the 1600 block of Lake Road in Willard around 11:45 p.m. Thursday.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found two people with gunshot wounds. A teen, a 14-year-old male, was found with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Pender Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries.

The mother of the teen, Jennifer Craig, was found dead inside the home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The case is being investigated as a murder suicide.
