UPDATE: West Nile-positive mosquitoes found near landfill

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County spokeswoman has released new details on the mosquito alert in the area.

Yesterday, Amanda Hutcheson said in a news release samples of mosquitoes in the county tested positive for the West Nile virus. She said the samples were taken late last month near the county landfill in the center of the county.

According to the CDC, about one in five people infected will develop a fever with other symptoms. Less than 1% of infected people develop a serious, sometimes fatal, neurologic illness.
