UPDATE: WPD traffic operation takes drunk drivers off the roads

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Several area law enforcement agencies came together last night to “saturate the city.”

They were on the lookout for unsafe drivers, particularly those driving under the influence of alcohol, prescription medication, and drugs.

The “Booze It and Lose It” bus was also on hand to quickly process those arrested.

“As it is right now, there are still plenty of impaired drivers out there. There are still plenty of crashes as a result of impaired drivers, and injuries as a result of it. So we’re doing everything we can to put a lid on it,” said Wilmington Police Department Sgt. Mike Donelson.

WWAY was there as police made arrest after arrest.

At the end of the night, officers had taken eight drunk drivers off the roads, and issued more than 30 other citations.
