UpTilt Film Fest announces scholarships for 2027 filmmakers

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UpTilt Film Fest announced it will award $7,000 in scholarships to filmmakers as part of its 2027 festival, expanding its scholarship program with three awards.

UpTilt Film Fest is a Wilmington-based short film festival dedicated to showcasing the work of women and gender-nonconforming filmmakers who identify as women.

According to the festival, the scholarships will be awarded to filmmakers who submitted short films with a runtime of 39 minutes or less.

The scholarship program includes two $3,000 awards and one $1,000 award.

The $3,000 Lisa Christine Hyatt Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a filmmaker who resides in North Carolina. The second $3,000 award, the Joy James, also known as Livity The Poet, Memorial Scholarship, is open to a filmmaker from any geographic location.

The $1,000 Silberman Family x UpTilt Emerging Filmmaker Scholarship is intended to support filmmakers who are beginning their careers.

Festival organizers said applications for the scholarships are open through Dec. 15, 2026. Additional information, including eligibility requirements and submission guidelines, is available through the festival’s website.
