US Airways flight misses landing at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – A USAirways flight was directed to perform a “go-around” at Charlotte Douglas International Airport because a departing aircraft was still on the runway.

The Charlotte Observer reports ( that Flight 2085, an Airbus A321, missed the approach to Runway 36 Right around 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The plane had departed from LaGuardia Airport in New York.

Federal Aviation Administrtation spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said procedures were reviewed and it was determined that all of the agency’s safety requirement were met.

Bergen described the “go-around,” also known as a “missed approach” as a routine procedure initiated by pilots or air traffic controllers when a landing cannot be completed.

It wasn’t immediately known how many passengers were on the flight, and airport officials couldn’t be reached for additional comment Thursday afternoon.
