Veteran Charlotte police office charged with sex offenses

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say a 26-year veteran of the department is facing multiple sex charges following an investigation.

Police said Wednesday that Officer Reginald K. Harris is charged with multiple counts of first-degree sex offense, indecent liberties with a minor and crimes against nature. Officials say the charges stem from an investigation that began last month.

Detectives also arrested the officer’s wife. Dia Harris faces the same charges as her husband.

The investigation revealed that the assaults occurred between 1999 and 2002. Police say the victim was a minor at the time of the assaults.

Reginald Harris is now on unpaid administrative leave. He has surrendered his gun and badge while detectives look further into the case.
