Warbler recovering at SkyWatch Bird Rescue after hitting glass door at WWAY

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A small migratory bird is recovering at SkyWatch Bird Rescue after flying into a glass door at the WWAY studio in Leland.
The common yellowthroat, a type of warbler, struck the glass around 1:15 p.m. Monday.
The bird appeared stunned following the collision and remained outside the station for several hours without flying away.
WWAY’s building custodian kept an eye on the bird, took photos and contacted the SkyWatch Bird Rescue hotline.
A volunteer later arrived at the station and transported the bird to the nonprofit’s facility in Castle Hayne.
According to SkyWatch Bird Rescue, the warbler suffered a concussion and is being treated for that and other collision-related issues.
The organization says the bird is expected to make a full recovery and eventually be released so it can continue its migration.
