Water main break reported in Lansdowne South

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A water main break was reported Friday in the Lansdowne South subdivision, prompting crews with the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) to respond to the scene.
The break occurred at the intersection of Devonshire Drive and Hammock Lane, where utility crews worked to shut off the water supply and begin repairs.
According to a witness at the scene, a fiber-optic contractor was digging in the area when the water main was struck. The company identified at the scene was Jilmo Underground Working LLC. That information has not been independently confirmed, and officials have not yet released a cause for the break.
CFPUA crews arrived with heavy equipment, including a backhoe, and shut off the water supply to address the damaged water main.
It is not immediately clear how many customers have been affected by the outage or when water service will be fully restored.
This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
