WFD responds to two overnight fires
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Fire Department responded to two fires Sunday night.
Fire officials say they received a call to 201 Kidder Street at 11:22 p.m. for a fire outside of a home. The scene was cleared by 12:30 a.m. with minimal damage to the home. WFD investigators ruled the fire intentional, saying it was caused by a mattress doused in gasoline placed against the home and then set fire. Wilmington Police also responded to the scene.
WFD then responded to a fire at 3642 Masonboro Loop Road in the Masonboro Sands Mobile Home Park at 1:12 a.m. Fire officials say they found a storage shed engulfed in flames next that had spread to a next door mobile home. The fire was quickly brought under control limiting damage to the mobile home’s siding, but the shed and it’s contents were deemed a total loss. No injuries were reported. Officials say thanks to the quick action of an off-duty Wrightsville Beach firefighter, a woman and her two dogs were able to escape the mobile home.
