WHA Board schedules Thursday meeting in wake of CEO’s DWI arrest

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Housing Authority has scheduled a special meeting Thursday in the wake of the arrest of CEO Michael Krause.

Wilmington Police arrested Krause Sunday afternoon for DWI and cited him for not having a license. It’s the second time since he took over WHA in 2008 that Krause has been arrested for drunk driving. In January 2010 Krause pleaded guilty to a DWI charge from 2009.

Monday afternoon WHA Board Chair Jeff Hovis told WWAY Krause had asked for a leave of absence. Hovis said he was trying to reach fellow board members to schedule a special meeting about what happened as soon as possible. By law, the board must give 48 hours public notice for the meeting.

This morning’s notice of the meeting scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at WHA’s Central Office at 1524 S. 16th St. says its purpose is “To discuss matters relating to Wilmington Housing Authority.” The agenda for the meeting says the board will meet in executive session before discussing other business and adjourning.

Krause has not yet returned a message left at his office yesterday.
