What’s happening across the Cape Fear this weekend
Wilmington, NC (WWAY) — Several events are planned across the Cape Fear this weekend, ranging from a community banquet and veterans membership drive to an art sale benefiting coastal conservation efforts.
The Brunswick County NAACP will hold its 37th annual Freedom Fund Banquet on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the St. James Town Hall Community Center in Supply.
North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Anita Earls is scheduled to serve as the keynote speaker, with remarks focused on protecting communities, culture and the future. Tickets are $60 in advance and $75 at the door. Proceeds will support the organization’s community outreach and advocacy efforts.
Also Saturday, VFW Post 12196 and its auxiliary will host a membership drive in Leland from noon to 5 p.m. Veterans and their families will have an opportunity to meet local members and learn more about joining the organization. A VFW service officer will also be available to answer questions about veterans’ claims and benefits.
In Wilmington, an art sale will raise money for the NC Coastal Land Trust. “Canvases for Conservation” features work by artist Elizabeth Darrow at the Station No. 2 Historic Firehouse.
The artwork will be on display Friday through Sunday. A ticketed reception is scheduled for Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., while the exhibit will be open for free viewing Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. An online auction associated with the event is scheduled to close Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
