Whiteville man charged with attempted first-degree murder after reported shooting

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Whiteville man is facing an attempted first-degree murder charge following a reported shooting in Columbus County.

According to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Sept. 22 after a man reported that he had been shot and was taking himself to a hospital.

Deputies located the man and said he appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical crews then transported him by ambulance to a hospital.

Three days later, deputies arrested 26-year-old Kyron Spivey of Whiteville and charged him with attempted first-degree murder.

Court records show the alleged offense occurred Sept. 22 and the case remains pending in Columbus District Court.

Spivey was booked into the Columbus County Detention Center on Sept. 25. The sheriff’s office said he was being held without bond.

Court records show a warrant for Spivey’s arrest was issued Sept. 22 and returned served Sept. 25. His next listed court date is Oct. 23.

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office thanked the State Bureau of Investigation’s Coastal District and the Whiteville Police Department for assisting with the investigation.
