Whiteville man sentenced to 30 years for 2023 murder

WHITEVILLE (WWAY) — Kenneth Bernard Wooten was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the 2023 murder of Jason Michael Scott, following a joint investigation by the Whiteville Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation.

The murder happened in June 2023 at 429 Ward Street in Whiteville.

Following the incident, investigators with the Whiteville Police Department began working to establish the circumstances surrounding Scott’s death.

Wooten had previously charged for murder in 2016 in a Chadbourn shooting.
