Whiteville police investigate death after body found in abandoned vehicle

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — The Whiteville Police Department is investigating after a person was found dead inside an abandoned vehicle in the 300 block of West College Street on Friday, police said.

The individual was discovered at approximately 2 p.m., according to a statement posted by the department.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation assisted local authorities in processing the scene. The Whiteville Police Department’s Criminal and Narcotics Investigations Division is leading the investigation.

Police said the identity of the deceased will not be released until next of kin have been notified.

The investigation remains active, and police said no further information would be released at this time.
