Wilmington couple inspires others to achieve New Year’s resolutions

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — David Silvia began 2011 unhappy with his direction in life, and he set what he thought was an impossible resolution: to reconnect with his one true love, his high school sweetheart, who he had not seen in 39 years.

“I asked God, ‘What have I done so horribly wrong to deserve to live the life I was living?,’ and today, I don’t know what I’ve done so incredibly right to deserve the life I’m living.”

“With a little good fortune, I’ll find out how she is. Safe, happy, and strong- that would have been good enough.”

But he found much more than that.

“I just happened to get on Facebook and I said, ‘Let’s try this.’ I just looked at the profile and I happened to glance over and at the top of her friends list was JoAnne. I pushed back from the computer screen and I said to the dog, ‘Wow! That’s her!’ ”

“I asked him a lot of questions and he made some trips down here and we got to know each other and we fell in love all over again.”

By the time this year rolled around, David Silvia had another resolution in mind.

“We were married December 1st,” said JoAnne Silvia.

And as 2012 comes to a close, the Silvias have made a resolution together.

“We’re starting a business together. It goes off January 1st.”

Silvia consulting, helping people set, believe, and achieve their goals.

“Don’t live a life of regrets. Be able to say, at the end of the day, ‘I’m glad I did,’ rather than, ‘I wish I had,’ ” said David Silvia.

“It’s never too late to be happy,” said JoAnne Silvia.
