Wilmington immigration lawyer reacts to Supreme Court birthright decision
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — On Tuesday, in a 6-3 decision, the United States Supreme Court upheld birthright citizenship, knocking down President Trump’s executive order and finding it unlawful.
Here in the Cape Fear, reactions came in following the decision.
Helen Tarokic is an immigration law specialist based in Wilmington.
She said it was tough waiting for the decision to come down, as it would affect many clients in the Cape Fear and others across the country.
And despite Tuesday’s decision, Tarokic said going forward, she expects more challenges regarding immigration from the Trump Administration.
“They’re really working on ending immigration or restricting it. Both lawful pathways, um, for visas or green cards that are already, you know, on the books, um, in terms of the laws,” Tarokic said. “And also working towards, um, blocking, um, a lot of humanitarian immigration options for example.”
Tarokic added that she had not yet spoken to any of her clients, but expected some excited messages and responses to Tuesday’s decision.
