Wilmington man arrested on firearm, drug charges after police investigation

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is facing multiple firearm and drug charges following an investigation by the Wilmington Police Department, according to officials.
Christopher Gangemi, 53, was arrested Thursday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Market Street by Wilmington police working in coordination with N.C. Probation officers. Authorities said warrants had been issued in connection with an ongoing investigation by the department’s Criminal Investigation Division and Gun Crimes Unit.
As part of the investigation, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1900 block of Carolina Avenue, where they reported finding and seizing a firearm suppressor.
Investigators also searched a vehicle and said they recovered a handgun, gun manufacturing components, about 13 grams of methamphetamine, heroin, approximately 50 dosage units of amphetamine, and cash.
Gangemi faces multiple charges, including three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon. He is being held without bond at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, according to authorities.
The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
