Wilmington man charged with kidnapping, child abuse after alleged domestic violence incident

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is facing five charges, including second-degree kidnapping and misdemeanor child abuse, following an alleged domestic violence incident.

Alex Bentes Dasilva, 37, was arrested Monday, Sept. 21, according to New Hanover County court and detention records.

A magistrate’s order alleges Dasilva restrained his wife without her consent for the purpose of terrorizing her.

Court documents allege Dasilva grabbed his wife by the leg, dragged her down the stairs and prevented her from getting away.

Dasilva is also charged with misdemeanor child abuse. According to the magistrate’s order, a child younger than 16 was in bed beside the alleged victim when Dasilva allegedly pulled her by the leg out of the bed. The document alleges his actions created a substantial risk of physical injury to the child.

Court records also accuse Dasilva of resisting a New Hanover County sheriff’s deputy by pulling his arm away while the deputy attempted to arrest him.

Dasilva is additionally accused of damaging the rear passenger window control panel of a New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office vehicle. The magistrate’s order lists the damage at $200 or less.

Dasilva is charged with second-degree kidnapping, misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, resisting a public officer, misdemeanor child abuse and injury to personal property.

Court records show a $15,000 secured bond was set Tuesday, along with conditions of pretrial release.

The case remains pending.
