Wilmington police charge three following gang-related shooting investigation

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Three men are facing multiple felony charges following an extensive investigation into a series of gang-related shootings that occurred in Wilmington during the weekend of May 30, according to the Wilmington Police Department.
Investigators with the department’s Gang & Gun Crimes Unit announced Thursday that they have identified and charged several individuals connected to a string of retaliatory shootings involving rival gang members. The incidents took place within the Vesta Village community and in the area surrounding Henry Street.
Police said detectives conducted a lengthy investigation, collecting evidence and identifying those responsible for the violence.
Among those charged is Isaiah Kyree Lewis, 23, of Maple Hill, who faces charges including assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed firearm, discharging a firearm in a reckless manner, and possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance.
Tazhan Deandre Beverly, 25, of Wilmington, has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, carrying a concealed firearm, and discharging a firearm in a reckless manner.
Jahzail Shamon Grady, 19, of Wilmington, is charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felony conspiracy, and discharging a firearm in a reckless manner.
Authorities said Lewis and Grady are being held without bond. Beverly is being held at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility under a $150,000 secured bond.
The arrests were the result of a coordinated operation involving the Wilmington Police Department, the City/County Mobile Field Force, North Carolina Probation and Parole, and the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team.
Police emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Detectives continue to pursue additional leads and identify other individuals believed to be involved in the shootings.
Officials said additional arrests and charges are expected as the investigation progresses.
