Wilmington Police identify victim in late-night shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police have identified the teenager shot and killed in the Creekwood South community on Thursday night.

Zalleux Johnson, 18, was found shot near the basketball court in the 700 block of Emory Street.

Police were responding to a ShotSpotter notification when they found Johnson.

Police began administering CPR until EMS arrived on the scene. EMS took Johnson to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he died.

New Hanover County Schools spokeswoman Valita Quattlebaum says Johnson was a former student at Laney High School. They had grief counselors on campus Friday.

Johnson’s murder was the first homicide of 2019.
