Wilmington Police investigate weekend drive-by shooting
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating a Sunday morning drive-by shooting that is believed to be related to a shooting Saturday afternoon.
WPD responded to the 1100 block of Carnation Court around 8:40 a.m. Sunday after receiving a ShotSpotter notification that several rounds had been fired in the area. Officers discovered a house had been struck with several bullets while people were inside the residence. No one was injured.
Officers also discovered a vehicle parked nearby that had multiple bullet holes. The vehicle matched the description from a shooting that happened around 3:20 p.m. Saturday on Dawson Street.
Maria Bonsignore, who was in the house at the time of the shooting along with validated Bloods gang member Michael Hines, confirmed it was her vehicle and that she had been driving it when an unknown black male shot into the car. She did not report the incident. According to witnesses, Bonsignore was stopped at the red light at Oleander Drive when a dark Chevy Tahoe with tinted windows pulled up behind it. A passenger jumped from the Tahoe, ran to Bonsignore’s car and fired multiple rounds into it before fleeing.
Bonsignore, 35, of Wilmington, and Hines, 26, of Wilmington, both said they did not know who shot into the residence.
