Wilmington Police investigating car crash involving a pedestrian

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that left a 22-year-old man with life-threatening injuries early Sunday morning.

According to police, officers responded at approximately 3:46 a.m. to the area of South Kerr Avenue and Patrick Avenue following reports of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a food delivery driver was traveling northbound on South Kerr Avenue when her vehicle struck the pedestrian. Police said the man was walking with two friends at the time of the incident.

Evidence collected at the scene suggests the pedestrian was in the roadway when he was struck, according to investigators.

The 22-year-old sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released his identity or provided an update on his condition.

The Wilmington Police Department’s Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
