Wilmington police investigating crime scene at Independence Mall parking lot

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington police are investigating an active crime scene in the parking lot of JCPenney at Independence Mall.

Officers are on scene in the 1800 block of Independence Boulevard at the shopping center.

Authorities are asking drivers to avoid the area of Independence Boulevard and Canterbury Road as nearby roadways are currently impacted.

It is unclear what led to the investigation at this time. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes while police remain on scene.
