Wilmington Police investigating shots fired incident on Wilshire Boulevard

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a shots-fired incident that occurred late Friday morning on Wilshire Boulevard, according to officials.

Police said officers responded around 11:38 a.m. to the 3400 block of Wilshire Boulevard after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers conducted a search of the area and did not locate anyone suffering from gunshot-related injuries.

During the investigation, officers did find evidence consistent with a shooting. Investigators immediately secured the scene and began processing evidence as additional resources were brought in to assist.

A WPD K-9 unit was deployed to assist in searching for a suspect in the area, and a track was conducted in an effort to locate the individual believed to be involved. Despite the search efforts, no suspect was immediately located.

Authorities said the investigation remains active and ongoing, and officers are still working at the scene.

Police emphasized that there is currently no active threat to the public.
