WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington will honor two longtime youth sports leaders later this month by renaming the gyms at the MLK Community Center after their decades of service to the community.

The renaming ceremony will recognize William E. “Big Train” Murphy III and Coach Ronald E. Davis, whose dedication to Wilmington Parks and Recreation and youth athletics helped shape generations of young athletes.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, at the MLK Community Center, 401 S. 8th St.

City officials said the old and new gyms at the community center will be renamed in honor of the two coaches, celebrating their lasting impact on Wilmington’s youth and the local sports community.

The ceremony is open to the public.
