Wilmington woman charged with DWI after driving into pole

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A woman is charged with DWI after crashing into a pole at a Wilmington intersection Thursday evening.

Wilmington police responded to a single vehicle crash at Shipyard Blvd. and 41st Street around 8 p.m. Thursday.

Police say 21-year-old Marguerite Merriman had driven off the road and hit a pole that was holding the traffic lights for the intersection, causing them to fall into the road.

Multiple agencies responded and were able to get a temporary fix in place by 1:30 a.m.

Merriman was charged with driving while impaired and received a $2,000 secured bond.
