Wilmington woman to husband: ‘Wake up! I think we just won the lottery’
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — If you’re going to get woken up early, why not do it by finding out you’ve won more than $150,000?
That’s what happened to a Wilmington man this week when his wife woke him with news they’d won the Cash 5 jackpot.
“I was in my office at home, and I saw the three numbers on my phone,” Judy Shaw said, according to a news release from the North Carolina Education Lottery. “I didn’t think anything of it, because I’ve matched three numbers before, but then I saw the last two. I jumped out my chair and ran down the hallway and woke my husband up. I said, ‘Wake up! Wake up! Get your glasses, I think we just won the lottery!'”
Shaw’s five numbers were the winners in Saturday’s $225,612 Cash 5 jackpot. After taxes she walked away with $156,803. Shaw, an insurance agent, plans to use that to reach her dream of paying off her home equity loan.
“It’s wonderful. It will make such a difference,” Shaw said. “It will be nice not to have to worry.”
She bought the $1 Quick Pick ticket when she stopped by the Han-Dee Hugo’s on Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington. She checked the numbers on her phone Sunday morning.
The odds of matching all five numbers in the drawing are one in 749,398.
