Winner announced in City of Wilmington LEGO competition

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington’s LEGO building competition drew thousands of votes ahead of the Wilmington Brick Convention.

The city invited residents to create custom LEGO builds representing their favorite places or memories in Wilmington.

Eight submissions were selected for the competition and displayed at City Hall for two weeks. The entries were also posted online for virtual voting.

According to the city, the contest received 7,042 online votes and 183 in-person votes.

The winning entry, “Veterans Day Parade,” was created by local Cub Scout Dean Poulos. Poulos, who marches in the Veterans Day Parade each year, created the build as a tribute to veterans.

The second-place entry, “Showboat,” was a LEGO model of the USS Battleship North Carolina created by 8-year-old Mason Gray. The city said Gray’s submission was a close second in the competition.

The contest was held ahead of the Wilmington Brick Convention, which celebrates LEGO building and creativity.
