With Village Plaza demolished, what will replace it?

WILMINGTON (StarNews) – The Village Plaza shopping center that stood for many years on Greenfield Street has been scraped from the site after a devastating fire in May.

The center, anchored by the neighborhood-favorite grocery store, Everybody’s Supermarket, was demolished this week, the pieces of charred wood and crumbled siding scooped up and removed from the land to make room for a possible redevelopment.

However, what could or will go in its place is still unknown.

Ron Satterfield, Wilmington’s assistant planning director, said the city has not received plans for new construction on the lot. Village Plaza owner Bill Baicy did not return a message requesting comment.
