Wolfpack to face Drexel in NIT opening round

RALEIGH (AP) — Drexel was one of the teams most surprised to be left out of the NCAA field. It now has to settle for the NIT and a first-round meeting with North Carolina State.

The Dragons had 13 regular-season wins on the road and had a solid RPI at Number 39, but were left out of the NCAA tourney for the first time since 1996.

Coach Bruiser Flint says he was told to play some good teams on the road. He says the Dragons did that, but it wasn't enough to get into the NCAA tournament.

Drexel was seeded third in the East, behind West Virginia and Oklahoma State, and will host the Wolfpack on Tuesday night.

NC State made an improbable run through the ACC tournament, knocking off Duke, Virginia and Virginia Tech before losing to North Carolina in the championship game.
