Woman killed in Southport house fire identified

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — The victim of a fire Wednesday morning in Southport has been identified.

Southport Fire Chief Charles Drew says 74-year-old Sylvia Beck died in the blaze, which was ruled accidental and appeared to be caused by a space heater.

The home is a total loss.

Crews responded to the scene on Coastal Drive just before 6 a.m. and were able to fully extinguish the flames within an hour.
