World Trade Center steel to be dedicated at NC Emergency Training Center

New London, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal will hold a memorial ceremony Friday morning to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks and dedicate a piece of World Trade Center steel at the North Carolina Emergency Training Center.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at the training center on Airport Road in New London.

Organizers say the ceremony will honor the nearly 3,000 people who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, along with first responders, survivors and their families.

The World Trade Center steel will become a permanent memorial at the training center and will serve as a reminder to firefighters and emergency responders who train there of the service and sacrifice of first responders on Sept. 11.

The ceremony will include remarks from 9/11 survivor Mark Giannini, who is expected to share his experience from that day.

North Carolina State Fire Marshal Brian Taylor will then dedicate the World Trade Center beam.

Organizers have announced the event will be live streamed on their Facebook.
