WPD recognized for supporting women in law enforcement

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department has been named the 2026 Agency of the Year by the North Carolina Law Enforcement Women’s Association.

The award recognizes law enforcement agencies for their efforts to support and advance women in the profession through leadership, professional development, mentorship and participation.

According to WPD, the association recognized the department for its support of professional development and collaboration within law enforcement.

More than 20 members of the Wilmington Police Department attended or participated in the association’s conference this year.

The North Carolina Law Enforcement Women’s Association also cited WPD’s partnership and involvement in the conference.

WPD said it plans to continue working with the organization and supporting professional development opportunities for law enforcement personnel across North Carolina.
