WPD: Two with gang ties charged with attempted murder

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police say two men with gang ties are in jail charged with an attempted murder from late last year.

Shaquille Gregg, 18, and Rakim Lee, 20, are charged with shooting Jeff Nelson, 20, Dec. 20 in the 1100 block of Crocus Court. They are charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Gregg is also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and an unrelated drug charge.

Investigators issued warrants for both men shortly after the shooting. Police arrested Gregg last month and Lee yesterday.

Gregg is in the New Hanover County Jail under a $2 million secured bond. Lee is under a $500,000 secured bond.

Court records show Lee also has pending charges for drugs and assault on a female. The Department of Corrections website says Lee was convicted in 2009 for assault on an officer and in 2010 for resisting an officer. Gregg was convicted in 2012 for drug possession.
