WRAAP host summit to discuss everyday challenges for teens

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One Wilmington organization gave the community’s youth an opportunity to discuss topics and issues they face daily.

WRAAP, Wilmington’s Residential Adolescent Achievement Place held their third youth summit this year on Saturday. The event titled ‘Are You Listening’ gave the young adults the chance to speak openly about everyday challenges they may have.

WRAAP’s Executive Director Daryl Dockery said this is a great way for everyone to get a better perspective the younger generation struggles with.

“To help that particular child or children know how to navigate when they are confronted with these types of situations, and make some good choices out of it and maybe they can perhaps be a good role model, a good peer mentor for other kids to see,” Dockery said.

Some of the topics discussed were about cyber bullying, drugs, gang awareness and school safety.
