Wreck closes part of Highway 17 in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Leland man has been charged with running a red light and causing a wreck that snagged traffic in Brunswick County early Friday morning.

The accident occurred on Highway 17 at Burton Road Southeast around 7:34 a.m.

It involved a Coca-Cola semi truck and a Ford Ranger.

According to Trooper Jacob Justice with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, John Allen Ferguson, 32, was driving the Ford truck.

The highway patrol says Ferguson was at fault and charged with running a red light.

He suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
