Wrightsville Beach to host 31st annual Bark in the Park
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Dogs and their owners can gather in Wrightsville Beach next month for the town’s 31st annual Bark in the Park.
The Hyperflite Canine Disc Championship is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. at Wrightsville Beach Park, 321 Causeway Drive.
The free event is open to competitors and spectators. Dogs of all experience levels can participate in the disc competition, which features two one-minute rounds of distance and accuracy throws.
Competitors with the most points after the two rounds will be declared winners. Dogs can also earn extra points for catching the disc in the air.
Competitors must use a Hyperflite disc. Each participant will receive a disc when they check in for registration.
No previous experience is required, and organizers encourage owners to participate if their dogs enjoy catching flying discs.
Costume contests
The event will also feature contests for Best Dressed Dog, Best Dressed Team and Dog Displaying the Most Personality.
Spectators will vote for the winners, and dogs do not have to participate in the disc competition to enter the costume and personality contests.
Dogs cannot wear costumes during the disc competition rounds for safety reasons.
Registration
Online registration ends at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, but organizers say participants can still register in person the morning of the event.
Those registering in person should arrive at the registration table on the field in front of Town Hall no later than 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
