Zapple confirmed as winner in New Hanover Co. Commission after recount

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The results of the November election of New Hanover County Commission stands following a recount Thursday.

According to documents from the New Hanover County Board of Elections, Rob Zapple was confirmed the winner over Derrick Hickey, 30,154 votes to 29,968.

Skip Watkins claimed the first of two commission seats in the election with more than 33,000 votes.

The winners replace Republican Thomas Wolfe and Brian Berger on the commission. Zapple and Watkins will join Woody White, Beth Dawson and Jonathan Barfield on the New Hanover County Commission.
