New Hanover deputies score big heroin bust

READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The New Hanover County Sheriff's Vice and Narcotics Division says a bust last night took lots of drugs and some weapons off the street.

After stopping a vehicle last night at 11th and Princess Streets, detectives found 10 bags of heroin. They arrested Leander Hands and Tamica McMillan.

Deputies also searched the couple's apartment on Taylor Street and found 260 more bags of heroin and two handguns.

The undercover detective in charge said that heroin has been a problem for our area.

"We continue to work diligently on reducing the availability of the narcotic, but it is in Wilmington, and these bags in particular with the 'NBA Kisses' and other bags that we found," the detective said. "By locating these and locating the stickers or the stamps, we're able to then kind of focus our investigation on possibly where it's coming from, but yes, heroin has been a problem in New Hanover County."

Detectives say they believe the drugs were headed north.

Isn't Taylor St. Gov't Assisted Housing

Well, well...We got another D.O.C prize winner. Sounds like he needed some cash. BUT isn't Taylor Street Government assisted housing? What I'm saying is the Gov't needs to drug test everyone getting ANY kind assistance before handing out all the freebies. That surely would save a couple of Billion on Ms. Perdues budget!!!

Another Habitual Felon

Just look Mr. Hands up on NC inmate search:
http://webapps6.doc.state.nc.us/opi/offendersearch.do?method=list
His felony record goes back to 1994. In 2002, our judicial system "consolidated for judgment" NINE felony offenses. 19 infractions while in prison, and they let him out early in April 2010! His parole ended on 1/11/2011. There obviously was no rehabilitation in this case.

felons

Until we demand more of our judges we will keep getting that over and over.
I have been trying to point that out. The fellow who shot himself last week and a case pointed out a few months before Antonio N Greene all look the same. Huge records, little or no time yet we have a jail full of non violent offenders.
Greene just got no time for a long list of stuff with a very large record.
and... goes up again next month again..and I'm sure will walk away
